Tonga Airport

The Fua'amotu International Airport is located in Tonga's capital Nuku'alofa on the main island of Tongatapu. Flights to Tonga are available through Virgin, Air New Zealand and Fiji Airways, with multiple flights leaving weekly.

Tonga Transport

For getting around Tonga Islands, there are several options including buses, ferries, taxis and domestic flights. Chathams Pacific Airlines and Lulutai Airlines offer flights between the Tongan Islands. For getting around the main island, there are reasonably priced guest tours available that take you to all of the major sights.

Tonga Car Hire

Tonga car hire is available at the airport and in town. You'll want to have a map if driving yourself as many roads are not marked. You may also need to obtain a visitors driver's license depending if you are from a non-visa exempt country.

    Day trips in and around Tonga

  • Anahulu and other caves. There are numerous caves throughout Tonga that are exciting to explore. Anahulu in particular is a favourite attraction due to its magnificent fresh water pool.
  • Ancient Lapaha. Lapaha was once the capital of ancient Tonga and the ruins are still there today. Explore the history of Tonga as well as ancient royal tombs and burials of important people of the past.
